OMAHA , NE – It’s been nearly one year since The Scoular Company was granted approval to acquire the assets of the bankrupt Coast Grain Company in Ontario, California. Today, Scoular’s Ontario business is back to operating at full capacity, bringing in corn to serve customers in the L.A. Basin, primarily for use in the dairy and poultry sectors. In March of this year, Scoular purchased the 100-car shuttle unloading facility on the Union Pacific Railroad that had been partly owned by Scoular since its construction in 1998. The company also purchased a feed manufacturing facility previously operated by Coast and approximately 14 acres of land where the two facilities are located. Creating a unique alliance, Scoular leased its newly acquired feed mill in a long-term agreement to J.D. Heiskell & Company, a feed manufacturing company headquartered in Tulare, California. Since forming the agreement, Heiskell has made substantial improvements to the mill. According to Mr. McQueen, Scoular Vice President, “Ontario is an important destination in Scoular’s network for marketing corn on the Union Pacific Railroad. In the past several months, we have focused on solidifying our position and resolving any uncertainties that have existed since Coast Grain Company’s bankruptcy began. Now, we are ready to move forward, looking for opportunities to further develop this site in an effort to consistently and reliably meet the needs of our customers.” |
