JEROME, ID - Dairies and feedlots in the Magic Valley region of Idaho will soon have access to a larger and more readily available supply of Dakota Gold Enhanced Nutrition Distillers Products™ and other feed ingredients. In June, The Scoular Company will begin operating its new 12,000-ton capacity feed ingredient handling and storage facility presently under construction in Jerome. A ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house will be held at the facility June 22.

Amid the rapidly expanding ethanol industry and subsequent increasing supply of the ethanol plant co-product DDGS, Scoular’s new Jerome facility is one of only a few in the nation with the ability to unload 75-car unit trains of DDGS in less than 48 hours. Located on the Eastern Idaho Railroad, the facility also will be capable of unloading Union Pacific 100-car corn shuttle trains in 15 hours.

Scott Jackson Trucking Company of Jerome will operate the facility for Scoular and will transport all of its products to area dairies and feedlots, continuing the trucking firm’s 18 years of service in the Magic Valley region.

“For the past 10 years, we’ve enjoyed building relationships with local dairymen and livestock feeders, supplying them with feed ingredients that we’ve been transloading directly from rail cars to trucks. Our new facility’s size and ability to take advantage of unit train efficiencies will allow us to provide our customers with a more consistent and reliable supply of ingredients for just-in-time delivery and further demonstrates our commitment to this growing dairy market,” said Eric Jackson, a Scoular Senior Vice President located in the company’s Minneapolis office. Jackson estimates that the company will handle a minimum of 300,000 tons of feed ingredients per year and deliver up to 50 truckloads of product each day.

“We’re also proud to be working closely with Dakota Gold MarketingTM, serving as the exclusive marketer and distributor in the state of Idaho of their branded premium product known as Dakota Gold DDGS,” said Jackson.

Scoular partnered with Northside Development Company of Jerome on the project and worked closely in cooperation with the Eastern Idaho Railroad.
