Scoular Acquires Grain Handling Facilities in Western Kansas
August 1, 2013
OMAHA, NE (August 1, 2013) – The Scoular Company announced today its acquisition of the assets of Tribune Grain, LLC of Tribune, Kan. Included in the acquisition is a grain elevator in Tribune, located on the Kansas and Oklahoma (KO) Railroad, and two seasonally-operated, rural truck facilities located north and northwest of Tribune in Greeley County. Terms of the transaction were not announced.
Glen Hofbauer, Scoular’s director who oversees the company’s Kansas operations, said Scoular will continue previous owner Dan Hild’s commitment to area farmers. “Scoular is a 120-year old agribusiness company. We’ve been working with farmers and operating grain elevators since our start in Nebraska in 1892,” said Hofbauer. “Dan’s also been in this business a long time. We’re looking forward to working with him to continue building what he’s established in Greeley County.” Hild will be working with the Tribune facilities and customers on Scoular’s behalf.
Hild said he’s pleased to be working with Scoular. “I’ve worked with the people at Scoular’s elevator in Coolidge for years, and I’m confident that Scoular will strive to provide good competition to maximize local grain prices for our area farmers. I also believe that working with Scoular will result in as little change for our customers as possible. Scoular is the kind of company that will make local decisions and give farmers an open ear.”
In addition to the Tribune area facilities, Scoular operates 10 other grain elevators in Kansas and eastern Colorado, the nearest of which is a unit train loading facility in Coolidge. These locations are part of the company’s grain marketing network that includes offices and facilities in 18 states, Canada, and Mexico. “Our network of diverse locations, products, and services allows us to connect farmers to opportunities down the road, across the country, or around the world,” said Hofbauer.
From more than 70 locations across North America, more than 700 Scoular employees tailor commodity supply chain solutions for their customers by buying, selling, storing, and transporting grain and ingredients for use in feed, food, and renewable fuel markets worldwide.
