Five Scoular news highlights from 2023

December 19, 2023

At Scoular, we embraced our innovative spirit in 2023 – our headlines from the past year prove it. We have been defining what’s possible since 1892.

We invested in the renewable fuels sector, boosted capabilities in sustainable pet food ingredients, supported community mental health services, and solved problems for our customers, producers and communities in countless other ways.

Here are five highlights from our news headlines in 2023:

Scoular invests in Kansas oilseed crush facility for renewable fuels market

Farmers in Kansas and Oklahoma will have access to the rapidly growing renewable fuels market thanks to Scoular. We announced in March that we’re converting a facility in Goodland, Kansas, into an oilseed crush plant for soybeans and canola.

We’re tapping the expertise of trusted partners to support producers in growing canola, partnering with agronomists from Kansas State University and Oklahoma State University.

And we’re excited to help our community grow. Up to 40 new jobs will be created in Goodland. The facility is expected to begin operations in fall 2024.

Scoular partners on community mental health initiatives

Because we believe so firmly in helping our communities and our employees, we took an important step to lend a hand in 2023.

New partnerships between Scoular and two Omaha-based organizations are addressing the growing need for timely access to mental health care.

The Scoular Foundation provided $250,000 to nationally recognized Boys Town last spring to expand access to mental health care. The foundation also donated $250,000 to the Methodist Hospital Foundation to bolster mental health care services in our community.

Scoular acquires frozen fish processing facility to serve pet food customers

We love our pups and other pets. And that means feeding them food made from high-quality ingredients.

A facility acquired by Scoular in May strengthens our ability to provide salmon, cod, tuna and other critical ingredients to pet food manufacturers. Located in Burlington, Washington, the facility upcycles fish trimmings by processing them into frozen fish ingredients for pet food.

Scoular creating sustainability showcase “hub” at Missouri grain facility

At Scoular, we lead the way for our agribusiness customers and partners, particularly in sustainability.

One example is our new sustainability showcase hub at our grain handling facility in Adrian, Missouri, which we announced in November.

Why did we create the hub? It’s simple: Sustainability is vital to Scoular and our customers. The hub will test and develop sustainability solutions.

We’re already making an impact. We’ve installed technology that reduces fan speed on our bunkers based on the velocity of the wind. This step will reduce annual facility energy consumption by an estimated 67 percent.

Follow us on social media to see progress on the hub and other sustainability initiatives in 2024.
