Joining the Celebration to Promote Pulse Awareness

On January 18, 2017, more than 150 celebrations took place around the world to recognize the second annual Global Pulse Day. Employees of Scoular, a leading U.S.-based agricultural marketing company whose Canadian affiliate is one of Canada’s largest pulse processors, gathered for a company potluck to enjoy dishes featuring tasty and healthy pulses. Coworkers from Scoular’s Saskatoon and Winnipeg offices joined the celebration via video conference.

“Canada is the world’s largest producer, exporter and major supplier of pulses to more than 150 countries around the world. Our employees work with these products every day, and yet many aren’t fully aware of the nutritional benefits of cooking with the crops we handle—crops like peas, lentils, chick peas, sunflower seeds, and beans,” said Richard Clatney, Director of Human Resources for Scoular’s Canadian operations. “Pulses are high in protein and fiber, have various vitamin components, and provide amino acid. They are quickly becoming an important component in healthful nutrition around the globe, not to mention a success story for Canadian agriculture.”

Global Pulse Day is an event designed to celebrate pulses and continue the momentum of the 2016 International Year of Pulses. The event was held around the world on January 18, 2017.
