Scoular and Evans Grain Announce Agreement

Scoular to Acquire Evans’ Facilities in Treasure Valley Region of Idaho & Oregon

OMAHA, NE (September 12, 2014) – The Scoular Company and Evans Grain & Elevator Co. are pleased to announce an agreement under which Scoular will purchase Evans’ grain-handling facilities in five cities throughout the Treasure Valley region of Idaho and Oregon. The transaction is expected to close in the coming months.

“Scoular and Evans Grain have enjoyed a close trading relationship for many years, and we are pleased to take this important step to unite regional operations and to work with John Evans in the future,” said Randy Schmidt, Scoular Senior Manager who works closely with the company’s intermountain business. Schmidt also indicated that Scoular and Evans Grain will be collaborating on some commodity and feed ingredient merchandising in other areas of the intermountain region.

Scoular operates several grain facilities throughout the U.S. intermountain area, including Idaho, Utah, Montana, and Washington. “The Evans Grain facilities are complementary to Scoular’s trading and grain-handling activities in this part of the country, and in particular, to our barge-loading facility in Burbank, Washington,” said Schmidt.

John Evans, corporate officer at Evans Grain, said “I’ve always had a high regard for Scoular and their merchants. I know I will enjoy the opportunity to use the Scoular tools and expertise to trade Treasure Valley wheat.”

“When added to our extensive commodity merchandising network, these facilities will allow us to expand the marketing options we can provide to our end-use customers and to local producers,” said Kevin Thompson, Scoular’s Director who oversees trading activities in the intermountain region. “We’re always looking for opportunities that allow us to serve our customers better, and this is definitely one of them,” Thompson said. He added that Scoular is excited about using the commodity transloading facilities located at Nampa to serve Treasure Valley feed users and complement Scoular’s ever-growing western commodity and feed ingredients business.

When closed, the Evans Grain transaction will be Scoular’s second acquisition of Treasure Valley grain-handling facilities in recent years. In July 2012, Scoular purchased two grain operations in Weiser, Idaho, from Weiser Feed and Storage, Inc.
