Omaha, Nebraska, July 26, 2016 – Scoular, one of the largest grain storage and handling companies in North America, announced that its facility in Goodland, Kansas has been recognized by the Kansas Department of Labor with the SHARP award. The Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) award is given to employers who operate an exemplary injury and illness prevention program.
“The SHARP award represents Scoular’s ongoing commitment to workplace safety for our employees. Our Goodland facility has taken the necessary steps to achieve this recognition and earn this prestigious award,” said Gary Kearn, Scoular’s Loss Prevention Manager.
SHARP is designed to provide incentives and support to employers who implement and continuously improve effective safety and health management systems at their work sites. All SHARP companies are exempt from programmed OSHA inspections from one to two years.
The Kansas Department of Labor also noted that Scoular’s Goodland operation had no safety or health hazards. The facilities employees have maintained a DART (Days Away, Restricted Time) and TRC (Total Recordable Case) rate below the national average for the past three years. Because of this, the Kansas Department of Labor is recommending to OSHA that the Goodland facility be renewed in the SHARP program for a period of two years.
“We will continue to make every effort to ensure a safe workplace for our employees. Receiving this award at several of our facilities demonstrates our leadership’s commitment to this important endeavor. These awards are few and the companies who receive them are elite,“ said Kearn.
