OMAHA, Nebraska (Feb. 14, 2022) – DirectWomen has selected Megan Belcher, Scoular’s Chief Legal and External Affairs Officer, to participate in an elite program that prepares women lawyers for corporate board service.
DirectWomen is a national nonprofit that works to increase the representation of women lawyers on corporate boards. Each year through a rigorous selection process, it identifies women for its Board Institute, a two-day program designed to position an elite group of women lawyers for service as directors of major corporations. This year’s 19 participants are general counsel of Fortune 500 companies, senior partners at top law firms, and leading lawyers from the nation’s largest private companies and non-profit organizations.
Belcher has more than 20 years of experience working for private and public companies in the agricultural, commodities, food ingredients and consumer food industries. She worked in private practice representing large public and private companies in an Am Law 100 firm before beginning her in-house legal career in 2007. At Scoular, Belcher oversees the legal, brand marketing and corporate communications, and sustainability and ESG functions. In September, she was appointed to Scoular’s Board of Directors. Belcher also leads the governance and management work for the Board of Directors as its Corporate Secretary and is a National Association of Corporate Directors Governance Fellow.
“I’m incredibly honored to be a part of this year’s DirectWomen class and to have the opportunity to continue to support DirectWomen in increasing gender diversity on corporate boards by developing women in law,” said Belcher. “Greater gender diversity on corporate boards leads to better decision making, more informed risk management, and stronger and more inclusive corporate governance. Through DirectWomen, I look forward to leading in new ways to ensure women in law have a leadership role on corporate boards of directors.”
