Nova Sonora and The Scoular Company Join Forces in Mexico

Joint Venture Nova del Mar to Produce High Quality Fish Meal and Oil; Scoular to be Exclusive International Marketer

OMAHA, NE (August 11, 2015) –The Alverde family of Guaymas, Sonora, Mex., and The Scoular Company of Omaha, Neb., are pleased to announce the establishment of a new joint venture. The newly formed company, Nova del Mar, will produce and sell high quality fish meal and oil made from pelagic fish sourced in the Sea of Cortez.

Nova del Mar will control a fishing and manufacturing business in Guaymas, which was previously owned and operated by the Alverde family’s former company, Nova Sonora.  The Scoular Company will serve as the exclusive marketer of all Nova del Mar products sold outside of Mexico.

“I am pleased to begin this new stage of my career with Nova del Mar. I look forward to combining my 50 years of experience in fishing and manufacturing with Scoular’s international marketing expertise,” said Nova Sonora founder, Jesus Alverde  Alonso.   “As Nova Sonora, we were the pioneers of the industry in this area. We established production in 1962 and later became one of the first companies to fish for sardines in the Gulf of California. In the future, we will continue to innovate as Nova del Mar.”

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with the Alverde family for the past 20 years,” said John Messerich, Scoular’s Senior Vice President who oversees the company’s global fish meal and oil marketing activities.  “We’re pleased to take this relationship to the next level by investing in Nova del Mar and becoming part of a quality Mexican fishing and manufacturing operation.”

Messerich continued, “The Scoular Company opened an office in Guadalajara in the 1990s, and it has been instrumental in growing our business in Mexico.  We are delighted to further invest in a country that we believe offers much future opportunity.”
